Science City Phoenix Centre

With the Phoenix Centre we want to create a centre of excellence – a think tank of bright creative young businesses for SCY to champion. The objective is to support these entrepreneurs to produce robust, stable, and adaptable companies.

The Phoenix Centre is a serviced business premises, set within the vibrant city-centre campus of York St John University. Occupancy at the Centre is subsidised for the year.

The Centre provides a significant opportunity for emerging businesses to align themselves with a leading higher educational institution. In doing so the entrepreneurs benefit from a high quality, eclectic creative learning environment, which offers an effective support infrastructure. This can include access to reprographic resources, and specialist state-of-the-art academic facilities.

During their year in the Phoenix centre, entrepreneurs will be encouraged to take advantage of a full range of business support services from Science City York. This is in addition to help from our partners, some training, mentoring, profile raising, networking, showcase opportunities, funding advice, and potential HEI collaborations.

Looking ahead – the future is creative

The businesses that have been awarded a place this year are innovating in a whole host of technological areas. They are keen to engage and develop during their time at the Phoenix Centre.

The Phoenix Centre is a two-year demonstrator project that will develop a best practice model of open and collaborative working. We intend to facilitate a cultural shift within the digital industries. In doing so we want to build a framework for working, which can be easily applied across the creative and digital sectors.
